DOCUMENTARY FILM

An art prodigy from New Jersey flees his broken Catholic home to live amongst the ghosts of the old Italian masters. Returning to the States in the 1970s, he “rorschachs” into the mysteries of his own psychological demons to reveal a fresh, unsettling vision for American contemporary painting that viewers are still reckoning with today. THE PAINTED LIFE OF GREGORY GILLESPIE is the emotionally-stirring feature documentary debut from director/editor Evan Goodchild that tells the story of the uncanny life and art of an overlooked virtuoso.
Awards include Best Feature Documentary (Doc. Boston), Audience Award Best Film (Cannes International Film Week), and the David Kleiler Cinephile Judges' Award (Newburyport Documentary Film Festival) for the 90-minute film.
